A minimum of 100 km/h or about 62 mph, can you imagine that? Meanwhile the entire Chicago metro area is blanketed with a 55 mph maximum . (We don’t actually drive 55, for the record). Ridiculous.

“We decided to change the minimum speed limits on those two roads after studies showed that a wide gap between maximum and minimum speed limits is a key cause of accidents on highways”

This of course excludes heavy trucks.

Al Zafeen also said that the minimum speed for trucks should be 60kph and the maximum should be 80kph.

And, to me at least, it makes sense. How many times have you been traveling at the prevailing speed of traffic, only to run into the stereotypical “Coexist” stick figure family’d Subaru Forester dawdling along in the center lane doing 60 mph?

In my opinion, these highways are world class (can’t necessary say the same about the drivers, though.).

The fastest sections on both I believe is limited to 120 km/h (75 mph), with tolerance up to 140 km/h (about 87 mph) before you get flashed by a speed camera on at least one of those highways. It used to be the case that the de-facto “enforced” speed limit was 160 km/h (about 100 mph).

Here’s a related post, which was my first ever post on Oppo <3.

Many of Michigan’s freeways post a 55mph minimum. 62 sounds nice, though.

While this sounds nice in theory, where’s the enforcement?

I can count on one finger the amount of times I’ve seen someone get ticketed for not following the posted minimum

This sounds like a test of survival of the fittest. Have you seen middle eastern drivers?!

Mostly 25 MPH limit here, 50 MPH on the FDR and some other highways. It makes sense here. A lot of sense.

Yeah. I believe a decent chunk of the population hails from South Asia as well. You know how driving is like in India - I’d be surprised if they stayed in their lanes.

Ah yes, from that part of the world that sets the example for others to follow so frequently.

Different traffic laws for geographies.

That being said, I do think many speed limits in the U.S. are too low.

Lanes, if they’re even marked, are merely a suggestion over there...

I’ve been trying to figure out what it takes to be pulled over for surfing l speeding in Chicago. I’ve driven through my whole life at a minimum of 70 if traffic allows. Often much faster.

American freeway speed limit laws are so rediculous. I’m willing to guess that 90% of the public actively disobeys them. In a lot of areas the police have a grace window above the speed limit they don’t care about providing conditions are good. Yet, we cling to the current limits like it’s the 1980s.
